I bought this for twentysomething ($22 after coupon?) back in May.
Currently $28 with a Prime trial.

Good luck reading a license plate.
No complaints other than that.
Even came with a usable MicroSD card.
And, the lighter cord died the third time I used it.
Turned out to be a cold solder joint where the usb cord was soldered to
the board inside the lighter plug.
Which explains why the LED status light still worked but no power came
out of the cord.

A quick hit with Mr Weller and it was up and running again.

I know this has been talked about before, but what dash cams are y’all using,
do they have to be wired in and if so, how did you do it? I don’t want wires

The cams don't suck too much power.  The ones I have use a max 32GB
card, which I think is good for about 8hr at 1080P.  Not sure how one
could use say a SSD which should be low power draw, would probably need
some kind of interface.

You can also buy a 360deg camera.
https://www.banggood.com/search/360-camera.html?sbc=1

They all look like they use pretty much the same internals and even same
cases, here is just one with wifi, could have it connect to a phone or
something and stream to a computer somehow, use a hard drive, but then
you are into more power drain.

Some cams have GPS built in

It probably wouldn't be too hard to tear into one of these and bodge
something up for pretty cheepcheep or just contact one of those chinee
companies and tell them what you want, they will have some manufactured
in no time.

All 4 cams slaved to a remote digital hard drive, mounted in the forward

Something in the multi gig or tera bit range that would give weeks of
recording time, but set for 5 minute segments, so you can search easier.
Also, the cams need GPS signal, to establish a date / time / location
hack right on the playback... [for later in court, you know] Cams need
good night vision also.

All cams and hard drive powered by a mounted AGM battery [the size and kind
used in home security systems] which is slaved to a small solar panel
mounted on the rear hat shelf, maybe two of those. Perhaps, an electrical
smart switch that can feed from the cars battery as a backup, but not
primary.

Perhaps, tie the whole thing into the car alarm system, so when you set the
alarm, lock the car, cams are "ON" duty...

 That cover it?

is a nice long-lived power supply, I'd hate to run down the car's battery

one of the Harbor Freight lithium ion jumper pack things, set up so it will
re-charge while the engine is running, and then isolate the system from the
car's battery automatically when the engine is off.

Two cameras probably needed, pointing fore and aft.

The cameras need to be mounted so they don't become missile hazards in a
collision, or and impact hazard to tear your eyeballs out or the flesh off
your hands.

I could probably bodge this up for $300 to $400.

Now that you have seen all the awful accidents recorded in Russia, Google
Chinese auto accidents which can be worse even without the snow.

What makes it worse is the cars in China seems to be as crashworthy as eggs
and the Russians with their old Ladas are about as bad.

China has become a huge market for Porsche since the Chinese can just buy
another Cayenne or Panamera when they destroy them.

Locally built Buicks are also very popular with unskilled drivers.
