Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
Bio-D would have less energy but I've found it to be good for the car in other ways. This makes me think. The snowmobile club has an old farm tractor we mow the trails with. Its gotten persnickity in the extreme. I bought some diesel purge to run through it but I'm wondering if a couple gallons of biodiesel through it might not do as good a job cleaning the IP and associated gubbins... -Curt On Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 02:19:19 PM EDT, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: I wonder if it has something to do with the biodiesel content? Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
Back in the day when I tracked mileage carefully I could definitely see differences in energy content from the fuel at different stations. There was one Mobil station that was generally the most expensive around but it'd get 1-2mpg better than most. I also found one place off the highway that was really cheap where the mileage was 1-2mpg worse... -Curt On Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:22:51 PM EDT, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: I do not have any specific testing or proof, but it just seems like I get better mileage when I filled up at other stations than I do with Sams or Walmart diesel. Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
It’s been many years but is it just me, diesel seemed like it used to smell much more potent when being pumped back in the old days than it does now. Probably because of the sulfur being removed. Seemed like mileage was better back then too. Drove the 2014 E250 to BWI Marshall Airport last night. The trip covered 40 highway miles with a fuel economy of 49 mpg. Added a passenger and three heavy suitcases for the return. Gauge readout was 47.1 mpg for the 80 mile RT. Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
Other than a being a cetane issue, I can’t see how. Reminds me of a crazy idea a coworker had: The logic was that in the early morning, when it’s cooler, you’ll get more gasoline out of the pump because the gasoline is cooler, and therefore denser, meaning that if you fill up early in the morning you really get “more” fuel out of the pump. Yes, the guy was a total nut job. -D > On Oct 20, 2023, at 11:45 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > No idea > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Oct 20, 2023, at 10:43 PM, Allan Streib wrote: >> >> What is the cetane rating of the Walmart/Sams fuel vs. others? >> On Fri, Oct 20, 2023, at 22:22, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: >>> I do not have any specific testing or proof, but it just seems like I >>> get better mileage when I filled up at other stations than I do with >>> Sams or Walmart diesel.
