When was the first Diesel put in a car by MB?

It was in 1936 with the introduction of the 4 cylinder 2.6L 260D. Here's
some info on it.

Yeah, who was it who wanted to put a 617 in a 107 chassis, with a big

Yup - it was me. I gave up on the 617 idea right after I got the SDL -
it HAS to be a 603 engine. The 603 is both lower, and much more V8
like than a 617. The difference is night/day.

I suspect the photog in that article thinks all Mercedes are Diesel
powered. Speaking of which, the book I'm reading now has a scene where
the WWII Germans are driving up in two Mercedes - they are identified
by sound because of the Diesel engines, then verified by sight. When
was the first Diesel put in a car by MB?

Several years ago, somebody here (or mbz.org) claimed to have done the
measuring, and if you gave the engine the normal height above ground there
would be 2-3 inches of interference between the timing chain bulge on the
valve cover and the R107 hood. I don't know if that would also make the
air filter too high, or if a hood scoop over the valve cover would do the
trick.

I have seen OM617/R107 cars for sale, the last one I can recall was
on eBay UK a year or two ago. I don't know if they use different
mounting arms and give up oil pan clearance or how they do it.

The actual cars I've seen pictures of didn't have anything obvious
done to the hood. (except for the guy who put an intercooler on
top of an OM617 and dropped it all into a W115, he had a HUGE
hood scoop)

I would want to have not only a huge hood scoop but a visible pulley
of some kind and extra biodiesel drums on the trunklid, a la the
souped-up Australian Falcon or whatever it is in Road Warrior.
