Yeah more or less the same thing. I believe there were just minor timing and carburetion differences. That engine was also used in the bus. That might be an interesting car to get. I have a 6 cyl 911 engine with 5 speed transmission in an 82 bus that would fit into there right easy and probably make it go just a bit better. I had a friend back in the day claimed he had a 912 engine in his type 4. I could never verify. I don't know and I'm too tired/sore (cut up a scrap snowmobile trailer today) to go find my "For the Complet idiot" book. I think that sounds vaugely right. The engine is only a relative cousin to the upright engine in the Beetle anyway, more like the pancake engine in the Type 3. I *think* the Type 4 engine is the same as in the late bus. -Curt From: Bob Rentfro <azbob...@gmail.com> To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com>; Curt Raymond <curtlud...@yahoo.com> Sent: Friday, December 18, 2015 8:42 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Don't See These Every Day... Re: [MBZ] Don't See This Every Day...
There is a Lebanese restaurant here in town, the owners have a big picture on the wall of Beirut in the 50s, some big square with lots of cars going around it taken from some tall building, and the father/owner is in that picture somewhere (he says -- apparently he was the wrestling champion of Lebanon at that time, and he was doing something official when the pic was taken). Anyway, the thing I noted is that a bunch of the cars were Benzes like that one. I talked to the guy about that, he said lots of the taxis and private cars were Benzes at that time, Beirut was a very wealthy destination city for Euro types and Middle Easterners, lots of entertainments not available in other places in the region. He lamented that the crazies had taken over, and was very sad for his country. --R Kaleb C. Striplin wrote: its a ponton, thats probably the right year Robert Rentfro wrote: A '54? Really?
