That is an empty site on my '86 SDL.  Could it be the third brake lamp,
"antilock", installed in the wrong hole?

The pedals have no impact.  I thought is might be some thing related to idle 
vs. power.  Or going vs. stopping.

I have been having no lamp  issues at key on.  What should light, does, and the 
weird light does not come on.  When I fire it off, sometimes it will come on as 
a flicker.

individual bulbs on pigtails, which are easy to insert into the wrong holes
in the cluster.  Could this be an out-of-place warning?  Key-on is usually
a lamp check, are there any labeled positions that do not light up?

Don't know about the SDL but if I remember on the SD the setup is 
just like on my 123. The light with the circle and 6 dots outside 
of it is the front pad wear sensor. The fluid level is 
incorporated into the warning light labeled BRAKE along with the 
parking brake left on switch.

Is there a icon or picture with the light?  Or is it just a plain,
red bright spot?  (Not that I would no anything about a W126
dashboard...)

The DOT 3 is good in both.  Clean and full.  I did have some brake fluid 
trouble earlier that did activate the brake lamp.  Would it be the brake wear 
sensors?  And why would the manual not indicate what the lamp is?

For a week or two there has been a flashing red idiot light coming on in the 
w126.  In the SDL it is between the glow and SRS.  It is on steady now.  My OM 
does not give any indication what this even is.  Same issue in the SD, but not 
solid yet.

However, Autozones catalog shows 12 kinds/makes of front calipers: steel 
piston, phenolic piston; one piston, 2 pistons; and prices ranging from $31 to 
$107.
