Now you've reminded me, and I'm gonna hafta tell it again. ;)

One day in the summer of ’47, at 13, I was driving a mule pulling an empty
tobacco truck (used to haul the ripened leaves from the field to a
curing/drying barn) through a field of tobacco on a “shortcut” to the
field nearby where the men, including my oldest brother, were pulling
(“priming”) tobacco leaves from the plants. Suddenly, the mule was
startled by something between the rows of tobacco nearby. I stopped the
mule and left the truck to investigate.

I found several cardboard boxes filled with half-gallon jars of
 “moonshine” (illegal - non-tax-paid) whiskey, maybe, a total of 12 to 15
gallons. I was already aware of the misery caused by alcohol and was, as
I still am, adamantly opposed to its excessive consumption. I opened
every jar and poured the whiskey onto the ground. After pouring out all
the whiskey, I proceeded to the adjoining field, where I excitedly and
proudly told the men what I had found and what I had done with it. None
of the four men showed any reaction at all. If any of them knew about the
whiskey, they exercised remarkable restraint, especially, if one of them
was the owner.

The stash of whiskey was near a paved road. I’ve always thought that,
maybe, a hauler had a problem on the road the night before and had hidden
the whiskey in the field temporarily and was planning to pick it up the
next night. It may also have been a delivery point that I stumbled onto
before the receiver picked up the delivery. A few days later, when I went
through the field again, the boxes and jars were gone. I never heard
another word about it from the men and still don’t know why the whiskey
was in the field.

Wilton, still not bashful at all 'bout the act - in fact, right proud.
;)

So what makes 'em so happy? Is it sold by the gallon? Half gallon jar?
Quart jar? ;)

I imbibed some moonshine in NC - interesting experience. Everyone
used the same Mason jar in the freezer. Open freezer, take a swig,
put the jar back in the freezer. Good stuff? - I dunno, but the
experience was quite unique.
