You'd be lucky if you could get 120 out of a Cavalier with 140 hp?with the
limiter disabled.?The other reasons for limiting top speeds on most vehicles is
because of the tires. After you reach speeds of 100 mph the tires will start to
overheat quickly.

I have a chev Cav, trust me, with or without computer limiter, it won't do
140 mph or anywere near it!! They often limit top speed in really fast cars
to keep the green guys happy, or in other cars due to tire limitations. I
don't think either is an issue wiht the Cav. hee hee

Not to mention the tires. And of course the brakes were teacup sized.

A 2003-2005 Chevy Cavalier has a small, low drag body and 140hp.
Can probably do 135-140, just like a 190E 16V, but it's limited to
108 by computer. If you do a panic stop from 100, you will have
gas from vaporiing front brake pads floating the pads off the
disks before you get it stopped.

Re: [MBZ] GTO fantasies

2007-09-03 Thread Gary Hurst
i knew a guy who had a very very fast and powerful chevy II. just a rocket
ship. it had 4 wheel drum brakes. i drove it once and endlessly was
shouted at to quit heatin up them brakes and lookout for the puddle.
definitely not a comfortable experience. (same guy also had a custom built
mazda cosmo which was actually pretty neat. i had a chance to buy it once,
but the engine builder explained that he would kill us both if we started
trading in that car, so we left it alone.)

i once also drove a euro S600 that had about the same sort of get up and go
as that chevy. only it actually had brakes, steering and a suspension as
well. was comfortable after about 10 minutes and could have driven it the
rest of my life.
