...Someone give me review of ceramic stovetop. Do they last? Are they
problem-prone? Does the glass break often? Can they be repaired?
 thx..

Which? Glass or ceramic?

I have a GE black glass cooktop with center downdraft exhaust. Similar to
Jenn-Air but less expensive and superior in design. Fast heating and has
warning lights for each element when warm. Requires polish to reduce surface
scratches and cooked on spills are removed by razor blade. Far easier to keep
clean that a conventional cooktop with exposed burners. Looks good, too. Not
exactly cheap.

(I even lived in Seattle for a couple of years
pretty close to Clay and yet never noticed one of these parking-lot
glass medics of which he speaks.)

These guys hang out in large parking lots with an EZ-Up tent. I usually see a
setup in Home Depot's lot at Aurora Village. But not today because it's
snowing and in the twenties.

But if you have glass coverage insurance, a regular auto glass shop will fix
the ding and bill your company with no deductible. Your company will pay the
entire bill (usually around $40) since it's obviously cheaper than replacing
the glass, even with your deductible.

[MBZ] Glass sealant for 300TD window leak

2008-10-28 Thread andrew strasfogel
I discovered the source of water leaking into the spare tire well in the LR
of my new 1983 300TD wagon: the fixed pane rear quarter glass window is
leaking. What is a good sealant to use for this application? It needs to
adhere to glass and rubber, stay pliable, and resist freezing and solar

I've always used the runny RTV sold for that purpose.
Or you can remove the window entirely, clean it thoroughly,
and put it back with the right stuff. (Butyl?)

I had that same issue on my wagon. I tried to use RTV on the inside, DON'T do

silicone (it'll say windshield leak repair). On the outside peal the rubber
back from the glass with a plastic putty knife, stick the snout of the tube in
there and run your bead around the window. I did that on my 240D's windshield,
held good for 3 years. The old diesel VW guys run a bead of it every year...

[MBZ] Glass

2005-09-30 Thread RELNGSON
So, the Pilkington windshield had to be replaced in ~4 years due to pitting
and the PPG is not like the OE either?  Is it holding up any better?
And yah, I know, it's no collector's item or classicjust a diesel vbg

Windshield damage is directly related to how much debris is on the roads one
drives on. In my area, the freeways are not very clean and traffic is heavy
and fast, much of the time. And so my car's original glass had a couple of
small
stars and a lot of sandblasting. And, since I had not put in a windshield
claim in nearly four years I decided it was time. Cost me my $100 deductible.
So
far, the PPG glass is in pretty good shape but I do admit that I avoid
following large trucks too closely and try to get by them quickly.

As to classics and collector cars, I include my own W203 on the list of
no, it isn't.
