I should sell my Frontier. I like having a truck but honestly I rarely
need it, I could probably get something better on gas and newer and
still have money left over.

I used to use it for towing my pop-up camper but I only use that a
couple of times a year tops, and I have the Volvo now that can tow that
just fine.

Two weeks ago a 18 F150 Platinum with 26k miles sold for 50k at the 
auction.


Everything is bringing close or above retail value.

Heck this little 95 Tacoma that was faded, rusty, interior trashed, 
loud, burning oil and had 378k miles sold for 2900 at the auction...

Nice!  Too bad it is not a 300SDL.   500SEL has hydro suspension, so you 
can load it down with steel bars and it will still ride right.   I saw 
one in Lancaster, CA that had been an embassy car, with the flag 
standards on the fenders.   I really wanted it but common sense prevailed.


Kaleb, buy it, put that low mile OM603 in it and give to to me so it 
does not get wrecked!   (I'll give ya $500)

It still even has the original Siggi Grimm dealer sticker on the back which was 
the Tulsa MB dealer up until 91 when they got bought out and changed names.  My 
115 that was my grandmothers has the Siggi Grimm sticker on it as well.  I 
wonder what they want for it. Its even got leather which is really rare on a 115

IIRC hubcaps were always painted in the same color code as the body of the
car for 115, 108, 109,111 models.

WellI have an 80 300SD with over 420,000 miles still running the original 
engine which has never required any work. So, if a new engine and rebuilt 
tranny were installed at less than 200,000, then I doubt this car has been as 
well cared for as indicated. It has a "shiny new paint job" to distract you 
from other possible issues. The price is way to high for this vehicle.

The ACC in my 1979 was deader than a doornail when I bought it, so I'm not sure
how it's supposed to function, but were the center vents supposed to be the only
place that blows cold, or were they the only place that didn't blow hot?

There is an exception to that rule.  If you to plan on a restoration, it
pays to purchase a *running car* as cheaply as possible so you can take
your time in making the most cost effective improvements at a leisurely
pace..  This explains my 18 year enjoyment and simultaneous restoration of
a 1970 280SE 3.5 coupe that had lots of issues, but I could at least drive
it safely while fixing and restoring things.

I isn’t a;ready have a pristine ’85 300D, and two other project cars….this 
would be very attractive.   Hmmm, Maybe for my daughter?

Yes I agree. One of the early mantras on this list was nothing as expensive
as a  cheap mercededes. I'd pay that if I needed a nice driver. If you
bring the 68 250s  youvll be in the running for earliest benz.

Tis an odd one, looks like a basic Euro version with stupid US stuff 
bolted on.
Anyway I don't think the price is outrageous, if the mileage is correct 
and everything checks out.

Rustfree, well that may not be true.
From what I have seen the 123 has long since moved off the bottom of 
the depreciation cycle, the better 124's are moving up and the 210 is 
just about at the bottom.

123's are now selling based on condition, not age.
Many an article extolling the virtues of the 123 out there, especially 
the oil burners.

And what about that mob that specialise in selling 123's for crazy prices?
I really think this is a car for someone who appreciates the 123 chassis 
and not some nutjob who is going to whack in some homebrew cooking oil 
still in the boot.

Also consider how many miles that thing will go before needing serious work.
You buy a 3k 123 with issues and 200k miles, how much you gonna spend to 
get it into that sort of shape? To me the big ticket items are paint and 
rust because I can't do them myself to a satisfactory standard.

AND jack the car up high enough that you can get your head under far 
enough to see what you are doing when you put the canister back on.  It 
is a bit of a tight fit between various other parts and if you don't get 
it on properly, it will: a) damage the edge of the canister, b) leak 
badly and c) make you cuss like a sob

Looks pretty good but I prefer my red with white interior.

I think that is what makes my car appealing. It is a very nice red 
color. Not Fire Engine Red and not Burgundy but somewhere inbetween.


The only real complaint I have about it is that it is noisy compared 
with modern cars.
