Joe signed off this list, too high a fluff-to-content level I think, lol. He's still dieseling away with his 124.193 wagon though. =) -Dave M. > -- > Date: Sun, 26 Mar 2006 15:27:48 -0700 > From: Craig McCluskey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [MBZ] Headlight relays---Kaleb? > > > On Sun, 26 Mar 2006 14:03:49 -0800 "Dave M." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > IMO, the "latest & greatest" H4 bulbs are the new Osram Hypers. > > Thanks for the tip. > > > > Joe Knight just picked up a set ... > > Haven't heard anything from him lately. Yeah, I'm looking forward to having Joe back on the list, I owe him one or two, uh, its three or four, actually its five or more. Lets see, he sold me his brake bleeder adapter kit, helped me get a spring compressor, provided info for my ball joint tool, told me about Gus Pfister, tried in vain to teach me EPC and ... Re: [MBZ] Headlight relays---Kaleb?
IMO, the "latest & greatest" H4 bulbs are the new Osram Hypers. The 70/65 variant will put out substantially more light than stock 60/55 (despite the numbers looking awfully similar), and there should be no need to mess with relays. The next step up is the 85/80 Hypers but I don't think you'd want to use those without relays. They're not cheap, but they are rated to last 2x-3x longer than most overwatt Rallye bulbs. You can buy them from Peter: http://www.mckeige.com/products-osram.php They're not listed on his website, you need to email him for more details. I just picked up a set for my VW, which has E-code lights but no relays. Joe Knight just picked up a set for his E-code lights and reported that he was definitely impressed with the difference from stock bulbs. :-) -Dave M. > -- > Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2006 15:32:41 -0500 > From: Jeff Zedic <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [MBZ] Headlight relays---Kaleb? > > > I finally got around to installing my Euro lights that I bought fom John > M in Victoria! speaking of euro wagons, I was REALLY watching this one close, was at like $900, no reserve for quite a while, then jumped up to 4k, no telling what it will end at. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4624665339&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 John Ervine wrote: John Berryman wrote: I have Sylvania Silver Stars and they throw a nice beam with 60/55s and no relays. Re: [MBZ] Headlight relays---Kaleb?
Jeff - I also recommend Dan Stern. He has a kit that has the connectors for the back of the high power H4s that won't melt. It also has a couple of relays, relay sockets the crimp spades to connect to the relays and a couple of healthy fuse holders with fuses. I was able to get the proper color wire, to match that on the car, in 14ga and 12ga and 10ga from an NTE wire distributor near Sacramento, CA to take the current from my 130/100 H4s, also from Dan. They are a German brand, Narva, and they have been running trouble free for a few years now. I am running the 130/100 H4s with relays and heavier wire in both my Benzes. I had enough empty spaces in the fuse box of my 126 to mount the relays in there. I used some of the woven nylon plastic "chinese finger trick" looking sleeving, from McMaster-Carr, to encase my wiring in nice looms, terminated with tie wraps. You have to look real close to see that it is not stock. I had 3 Sylvania bulbs that actually melted the glass of the bulb. I can honestly say, other than drawing more current they did not seem any brighter than the bulbs I am currently using (60/55 Silver Stars) without relays. I get an oncoming car flashing their brights at me about once a month. Of course, if you like all the extra wires, relays and fuses/ breakers go for it. I did and found little benefit. 60/55s will be easier to get off the shelf replacements for too. I ended up with 1 100/90 and a 60/55 on my way back from Key West last year due to lack of availability. YMMV. Johnny B. I Mac Therefore I am

I was interested in going slightly overwattage and wanted to get some relays to put inline. Does anyone have a link to a write-up for wiring these? For a 107 SL: http://cathey.dogear.com/JSLlights.html Note that this car does not have a lamp-out monitoring system to fight. I finally got around to installing my Euro lights that I bought fom John M in Victoria! (Thanks again John) Boy is it nice to be able to see at night again! What a huge difference; I already knew it would be better as I have them on my W123 and had them on my W126 also.
