As I remember Marshall had a 190D 2.0l. I had an '85 190D 2.2l 5spd and an '84 
190D 2.2l auto. The auto box sucked, it wasn't that fast, wasn't that good 
about figuring what gear to be in. I hated it.

A 5spd 190D is considerably faster than a manual trans 240D and gets 50% better 
mileage. A W201 thats properly sorted handles better than a W123 and feels more 
sprightly than a W124. 

The cost is that they're made cheap. My bony elbows destroy the armrests...
