I read a good idea somewhere recently about jamming a short section of
radiator hose between the valve cover and the air cleaner to save the
mounts.

It also makes the noise when I go around corners, like the entire
transmission is sliding a bit and then hitting something. Or when slowing
down quickly in reverse while turning or slowing down on the steep incline
at bottom of our driveway. I thought it was the antisway bar bushings, but
checked them. Then thought it might be a battery hold down, but that is
tight now. Then the trailing arm mounts - both new now. The tranny mount
should have been new when the transmission was r and r'd, but maybe not. I
will check the downpipe, but it was tightened when I did the head. Could be
the downpipe mount, but it sounds like something hitting the body, so maybe
the exhaust itself? Steering is perfect, no uneven tire wear to suggest a
suspension issue, which rubber has all been replaced anyway over the years.

Now that the sewer/water/gas/yard drain trench is filled in again, I might
be able to get it up on ramps, but getting the assistant out there
simultaneously is going to be a challenge.

In other news, I could use a pneumatic scissor lift thingy. Who makes a
good one?

Double check air cleaner bracket and mounts, get underneath and shake the 
exhaust and check any heat shields.

If you're still looking, put the front on ramps, watch from underneath as your 
lovely assistant shuts down the motor.

bit at shutoff and there is a loud thwak? Is it a worn motor shock mount or
something? Mounts are newish. Air cleaner bracket is new as are little
mounts. The sound seems to come from passenger footwell. Thanks.
