Re: [MBZ] ML Window Regulator Replacement

2020-01-23 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Andrew, it seems that Mercedes went to rivets on window regulators in the late
90s. I know that W220 and W211 chassis cars use rivets as well. Probably
cheaper to use and easier in production. The regulators aren’t nearly as
substantial as in previous models, either. At least not in the W220s.

Don, I just use a manual riveter from HF like this one:

https://www.harborfreight.com/heavy-duty-17-1-2-half-inch-hand-riveter-with-collection-bottle-66422.html

My small riveter wouldn’t do rivets this size, and I don’t rivet enough to
bother with the hassle of a pneumatic riveter. If this one had a negative it’s
that you have to be able to get straight on at the rivet, so if it’s in a tight
space you might have problems.

It is more convenient to assemble with rivets, but not for maintenance.

Dan, what type of rivets are you needing a monster rivet gun for? Iuse both
solid aluminum rivets with a little pneumatic gun, and cherrymax rivets
(strong pop-type) with an airpowered gun that is rather large on the Cessna
