Yup. RLE (RIP) went round and round over that.

And they're as bright as brake lights. So far LED's on the road have _not_

Yabut their not going to sell their Maomobile in its current form, their going
to hire European designers and engineers to redesign it for the world market as
well as build other cars competitive with Merz and BMW.
Car design worldwide is in the doldrums. Ever notice the front end of a Toyota
Camry? Looks like an ugly fish with its mouth wide open. That goes for many
other models from Europe and the U.S. as well.
In general, the Chinese' European designers and engineers they are hiring can't
do any worse than those working for the current major brands.

Renowned as the iconic vehicle used by the country's leaders on important
national events, the Hongqi sedan is about to go global.

After completing a four-day business trip to Germany and Spain, Zhang Ming,

set up research and development centers in Europe.

"Hongqi is finding the most outstanding design resources around the world to

Friend bought one not long after they came out, and I drove it. It
wasn't impressive. It had a stock American drive train and the
handling was nothing special. He kept it for years and finally sold
it. IIRC the body was unpainted stainless steel. Where do you find a
bodyman who can do an invisible fix on a dent in unpainted stainless
steel?

My assessment exactly, with a few add ons.

Gull wing doors with non functioning side windows from a practical standpoint.
Stainless body not repairable by an ordinary body shop, except by
replacement. [very high cost due to limited production]
Nothing outstanding in either power or preformance.
Not really an attractive car that says "drive me, I'm Aston Martin fast".
Virtually impossible to access engine for routine maintenance.
High cost [for it's era].
You have to take off your disco boots to drive it... [snarky comment].

I wish the "new production" every success, however, I won't be
spending $40+K for a refurbished one.. or $100+K for a new one...

Any tears for the 1975 - 89 Chevy Chevette?

I purchased one new in late 1975 for $3600, and sold it in 1982 for $300
prior to purchasing my very first Mercedes - a 1973 280. As they say, the
rest is (boring) history.

Time Magazine rated it among the 50 most cars!

On Wheeler Dealers they purchased a 1976 AMC Pacer for $3500 and
then tricked it out for another $15K, IIRC. They ended up 8K in the hole
after donating it to a charity auction...

I found it quite utilitarian, and problem free for 6 years (except for
surprisingly costly brake work). With the maintenance savings I was able

Back years ago wasn't there some sort of Renault that got imported and
co-badged with Dodge or something? anyway, this girl who was a friend
of my wife was getting married in NJ or someplace, and another friend
and her husband wanted to go. They had a new Renault or whatever it was
and offered to take it. OK. At some point I got pressed into driving,
what a POS that thing was. Small, no power, handled like a beach ball,
since there were 4 of us and luggage it was down on the suspension stops
so rode like a log wagon.
