[MBZ] More $500E420 fun with the nannies.

2021-03-09 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I fooled around for awhile with the $500E420 this afternoon, manually
set the fuel pressure relay to on and tried to start it again, no joy as
expected.  It exhibited another interesting aspect that was not evident
the other day. The ABS motor was running when I had the key on and it
was pretty noisy.  I disconnected the cable so it wouldn't draw down the
battery.

I had the charger on the battery which was all charged up so  I put the
computer on it again, it would not talk to any of the engine nannies,
and only some of the others, but it was talking to the interior control
stuff like seats and doors and stuff, so at least something is working.
The HHTWIN for the older cars is kinda flaky sometimes, but it was
working today so that was encouraging.

I took out some of the other electronic modules that are up around the
K40 in that box, I noticed one of them had some corrosion on the screws
holding what I guess is the circuit board in an aluminum housing.  Not
sure which it is, will need to study that a bit but I am thinking it is
the engine control computer, etc.  I wonder if it tells the fuel
pressure relay to close.  Will need to find schematics to see how all
this stuff is organized.  Might be time for some junkyarding to find
some more modules, which I guess would have to be specific to the 420,
maybe 430 would work.  AT this point my suspicion is that one or more of
these modules is bad, that is why the car won't start and why the
computer can't talk to them.

I have been recording all this stuff and uploading to the Utuber without
editing so it is kinda rough but will be fun to watch maybe if anyone
cares to.

Fun times!
