The only reason Exx is cheaper than straight gas is the government subsidy
to use ethanol. It's a shell game that works because voters are so stupid.

Unleaded 87 is back down to $3.99 here. Diesel is at $4.89.

Using food crops for fuel is stupid. It's a net negative once all costs are
accounted for.

[MBZ] More ethanol!

2022-04-13 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Food prices are skyrocketing, shortages of grain expected, turn more food
stocks into fuel to bugger up our cars! It all makes perfect sense.

[NB: while this is definitely a political decision my point is that we could
expect more damage to fuel systems and worse performance with higher ethanol
content]

From the WSJ:

The Biden administration’s plan to temporarily allow higher ethanol blends in
gasoline is set to boost U.S. ethanol producers while lifting demand for
farmers’ corn. While companies such as Archer Daniels Midland, Green Plains and
Poet stand to gain, food companies and meat processors are worried about the
policy raising their costs. They rely heavily on grains such as corn to feed
livestock and poultry. The move to sell gasoline with 15% ethanol, dubbed E15,
during the summer aims to help lower consumers’ fuel costs.

Why is gasoline still so expensive if oil prices have dropped?
