I just found a Nice Price or Crack Pipe C36 from a year ago.
88% is a pretty high score in that category, isn't it?

I never realized they were that rare here. 200 in 3 years, that's less than one
per dealer. And worldwide sales were only about double the US sales of the
2.3-16.

Re: [MBZ] New (Diesel) Addition to the Driveway

2016-11-18 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Say what you want, but those guys have monetized the crap out of that site and
must be pulling in some serious coin on their auctions. They charge a flat fee
to the seller but a percentage to the buyer. They’re regularly selling cars
that are near north of $100k every week, so there’s some major dollars crossing
their threshold. Granted, they’re having to pay for hosting and bandwidth, but
other than that their overhead can’t be significant.

It’s a great venue to sell if you’ve got a nice car that mildly unique or
unusual. They seem to have a pretty good handle on what sells and what doesn’t
as it’s rare to see something end up as a klunker, although I have seen a
couple over the last year. There are some marques that they seem to favor,
such as Porsche and weird Italian stuff you’ve never heard of before.

I look forward to seeing their daily auctions just for a wide range or stuff
they sell and the comments, which are really informative and fun.

That’s why it’s a candidate to replace the eldest son’s S420, which he loves

Unfortunately, no. Florida has “PIP” (no fault) which is mandatory, so your
base insurance cost is pretty much the same for everyone.

Flip it, get a really nice E300 Diesel?

In the other hand, this 123 will be less troublesome, if less refined.
Downside is lower mpg, but not significantly lower, and diesel is much cheaper
than premium gasoline now.

Maybe insurance / registration will be cheaper?

Hurricane evacuation: many fuel stations here in Mount Plastic ran out of
gasoline, but diesel supplies were not exhausted.

Great buy, that would be worth 3x the price up here.

2016-11-12 Thread Kevin Kraly via Mercedes
You got an awesome deal! $1700 for a 300D Turbo Diesel with 125k and well
maintained? You could drive it out here to the Pacific Northwest and triple
your money as it sits!! After some "Martha-ing," you could try for $6k!!
Here's one for similar money with double the mileage on the clock.

I really need to get back to the old cars, screw these new ones. Yes they are
nice but the 07 has been off the road more often than not in the last month.
First alternator, then power steering pump. Now I got a check engine light that
says rail pressure too high. Wtf? Have spent several hours today unhooking fuel
lines testing low side pressure. Then it's time to move on to high side
pressure. Could be the pressure regulator valve that is on the rail but appears
you have to replace the whole rail which is close to $700.

Sad part is that I’m not sure I want to sell it to my oldest son - I can
probably clean it up and get twice as much as I paid for it….

[MBZ] New (Diesel) Addition to the Driveway

2016-11-12 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
1982 300D:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qrdny7e1oz2xndm/AACgvQsOgzSyVgTJacyc5UJua?dl=0

$1700

Two owner Florida car, 125k on the clock. No records from first owner (it came
out of an estate) but current owner has owned it since 2001 with 100k and only
put 25k on the clock since then. Lots of maintenance such as front end done
with MB parts, flex discs and all mounts, new master cylinder, etc.

He thinks it’s got sticking calipers in front due to lack of use. Brakes are a
little slow to stop, but serviceable. I drove it and it’s amazingly sprightly
considering it’s a five cylinder. Not even a wisp of smoke on hard
acceleration. Shifts are correct and crisp, no weird noises, glows up cold and
fires right up. R12 AC that’s intact but may need a charge - compressor engages
but it doesn’t blow cold. Tires are good and worn evenly.

Finish is good but has a lot of cracking due to age, but being a single stage
paint it’s going to come back really nice. One dime sized rust spot above
right rear passenger door handle. Get this - the car is almost rust free
otherwise - it was Ziebarted when new! The plugs are all over the car. I
suspect the surface rust above the right rear door handle is due to the owner
living about 100 yards from the Gulf. Needs a rear window seal, as the old one
is starting to crack. Upholstery looks like new, with one little tear on the
bottom of the driver’s bolster. Has the original radio, too. CV joint boots
are original and pretty cracked but not broken.

Picking it up on Monday most likely. Already starting a Martha list…
