Turns out the M133 is an AMG only item.

The engine in the CLA250 makes:
Torque 258 lb-ft @ 1,250-4,000 rpm

so only about 125hp at 2500rpm.
3000rpm might get you to 150hp (and that's 150hp at any altitude), but would
probably require a custom prop.

Hmmm - I was thinking more on the lines of an MGB or Triumph GT6 ---
The MB engine turn a bit fast for a prop, and the speed reduction gear
boxes are the greatest source of failure in auto engine installations in
aircraft. That's also $6k more than the Lycoming I have for it ...

They claim it's not a downgrade because it makes as much power as the old one
at 2000.
But can you imagine the area under the curve if this one made 400ft-lb from
2000 to 5500?
I guess it doesn't really matter. If you have an automatic transmission, you
aren't allowed to go full throttle at 2000rpm, it'll kickdown instead.

The part I like is that it has direct injection, but also has port injectors
for when the direct injectors really shouldn't be asked to push that much fuel.
This should help clean the intake ports and valves, which become a sooty mess
from EGR in DI engines.

The whole point of DI is it's timed for after the exhaust valve closes so none
can blow out the exhaust, and the issues with DI are some of the raw fuel hits
the cylinder wall and ends up in the sump and the fuel detergents can't clean
the EGR soot off the back of the intake valves because the fuel never goes
through them.

2019-06-06 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

"Worlds most powerful 4 cyl engine"  is BS too.

OK, this example is not more rated HP, but is bigger, and if you
consider torque, more powerful.
There are other 4 cyl engines with big HP and torque and displacement.
The Merkun mantra:  "There is no replacement for DISplacement"

*How big*: 28.3 liters
*How powerful*: 300 horsepower

Yes, there are some cars with larger airplane engines out there, but
this Fiat is the real deal. According toTeam DAN
, this is what you need to know:

Built in the winter of 1910/11 by Fiat to take on the Blitzen Benz,
it featured a four cylinde 28.3 litre engine (190x250mm). Two of
these cars were built. Number 1 was purchased by the Russian Prince
Boris Soukhanov late 1911, but after the Russian revolution it went
to Australia where it was fitted with a Stutz engine until it was
crashed in 1924. Number 2 was retained by Fiat, but was scrapped in
1920, only the engine being kept.
   https://jalopnik.com/the-worlds-ten-largest-engines-509258535

But, a more modern example:
https://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/15015/thor-is-a-4-0-liter-four-cylinder-that-can-make-over-1500-hp

AMG may have the most HP in a 4 cyl production car, but that is NOT what
the hype-sters said.

I am sure there are 4 cyl marine/industrial engines that top 400 HP
too.   But not at 200HP per liter, but again the AMG hype did not claim
HP per liter.
