You know, that car could be a lot of fun if you could transplant a later 
model engine/drivetrain/suspension into it somehow, leave it looking a 
beater and go roaring around embarrassing Porches or something like 
that.  If had a shop and a big budget and loads of time it would be a 
fun project.

I tend to think of the '96-'97 W210 diesels as neither fish nor
fowl---the leftover NA engine from the '94-'95 W124 in a brand-new
design with a long list of well-known teething problems.  The '98-'99
turbo cars are the really desirable ones, although a lot of people
over on Mercedesshop seem to think that the facelifted '00-on W210
(only available as a gasser in the USA) is a much better car---a LOT
of little improvements (though the spring perches still rust out if
you look at them funny).

[MBZ] Nice diesel MB in Wichita

My indy (Autohaus Stuttgart) has a small lot next to the shop where he also 
sells cars. He has a 1997 300D with 140,000 miles.  It is very clean.  It's a 
really nice car, and I should buy it, but I don't want a car payment.  I think 
he has it priced around $8,000. That seems a little high, but I think these 
cars sell pretty well.  Its silver with grey interior.

Not mine, no interest, no affiliation except that I know the guy and he's a 
friend.
