Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Start it on K1 if it is cold,
then keep the veg oil warm with the heater. Switch over once the veg
oil is warm.

The real question is whether you have any use for the oil burner? If
not then get rid of it one way or another.
I would guess (and it is only a guess) that you could burn fry oil if
you could warm it to the consistency of the normal heating fuel oil so
that it would flow through the control valve in a similar manner.
Alternatively, you may be able to modify the control valve to permit
thicker oil to flow etc. Experimentation would likely be required.

I am familiar with waste oil heaters. I do not have waste dino oil
available, therefore have no need for a waste oil heater.

I do have an old carbureted oil burner, and I am thinking it could burn
used fry oil, as an alternative to sending it to the scrap yard.

Worked in a shop that had a factory built waste oil furnace, back when I
lived in the frozen north land. It kept the shop toasty warm, worked well,
and "disposed" of the used oil a win / win..

[MBZ] OT: (Somewhat) Oil burner heater

2018-06-30 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I am wondering if used fry oil could be burned in an old carburetor type
oil burner. (not an oil furnace with a high pressure oil pump) These
are similar to the old round kerosene heaters of the 40s and 50s, only
stationary to heat a house, and larger. We know it will burn K or #1
fuel. I am thinking it should be able to burn warm and well filtered
fry oil also. Any knowledge or ideas? I think I lit one once, and I
have refilled the oil tank on em, but I don't have a lot of experience
with them.
