It was late afternoon so the sun was not strong. If my wife reports that the temps are still not cool enough I might add a bit more. The gauge showed 25 - 45 PSI as "normal" so I'm sort of in the middle of that range (probably different for different cars though?) 30 psi is a bit on the low side What is the ambient temp outside , preferably readings in the shade and the sun ( the shade is the one you'll find on all the weather sites ) ---Robert Allan Streib wrote: > ...goes to the Ford Focus, and the decision to locate the AC low side > service port in the passenger-side fender, UNDER the wheel well liner. > So you have to remove (at least partially) the wheel well liner to > charge the AC. [MBZ] OT: Award for inconvenient design...
...goes to the Ford Focus, and the decision to locate the AC low side service port in the passenger-side fender, UNDER the wheel well liner. So you have to remove (at least partially) the wheel well liner to charge the AC. I couldn't even find it until I went on-line and looked up its location. I found my refrigerant can tap valve, and hooked up my cheapo gauge to the port. Pressure was about 20 PSI, and the compressor was short-cycling. Added roughly half a can (6 oz) of R134a and the compressor stopped cycling, ran more quietly, and the pressure went up to about 30 PSI. Vent temps dropped from 60 to 40 degrees (F). Since the total capacity of the system was listed at 26oz and it acted happy with that amount, I did not add any more. I've heard it's better to be a little too low than too high.
