on the sea.

That one is a favorite of my Son in law, who worked the USCG rescue boats in
those crab beds. I Think 'cool' is a bit of an understatement given all
that ice

OK, the first episode was kinda intersting, but how many shows can you
make about semi trucks driving on ice? I'm already bored.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Ice Road Truckers

2007-07-15 Thread Wonko the Sane
The rides on the ice have all been completed (of course) so they will keep
showing 'em until the episodes already in the can have been broadcast, and
of course for as long as the sponsors continue to send in the checks and/or
find loopholes in the contract.

For what it is worth, my college age daughter, who has never so much as ever
sat in a semi, loves the show.

I think this is the latest incarnation of the West Coast Choppers sort of
show, where individuals on-screen yell at one another incessantly and the
average viewer thinks, Thank God I am not that blue collar. ... And for
those out there who are or have been drivers, I don't mean anything
derogatory by that comment; instead, I am referring to individuals who,
offered the opportunity to start in a television show, will go days without
sleep while driving a rig over ice just so they can win when the points
are added up. There is a reason the the gumment restricts the hours that one
can drive per day!

But I do agree. The first one or two times were pretty cool. Unfortunately,
they are working on a theme upon which there are few possible variations --
unless someone does something like actually die after falling through the
ice, complete with footage of Coast Guard choppers trying in vain to do the
rescue. Since the ride is over and everyone's final scorecard has been
posted on the 'Net (none posthumously), that isn't going to happen.

Strangely, I found the Bering Sea crab boat series much more
captivating, even though it has basically the same limited variations
on the theme. However, though my personal experience is slight, I've
always thougt there was something cool/romantic about working on the
sea.

When I got shipped off to OCS as an E-6 Avionics Tech and left (for all
practical purposes) Coast Guard aviation, I was slotted to transfer to
Kodiak and work SAR from C-130s and HH-3F helos.

I think I missed some interesting times.

Well you can always switch channels to something more stimulating like
bikini girls jelly wrestling or the good old spitting into a spitoon
contest. What about a nice food eating contest, I know I have a great idea,
how about we get some large white people to see how many starving african
kids they can eat in an hour or so.

yea, I watched the first one, then part way thru the 2nd I got bored.
Besides, they already had a show about it a year or 2 ago on the history
channel or one of those.
