Went to the warehouse to look at the range this morning. It's a Viking
Professional range but it's a household model. Data plate on the back says
certified for household use and it has a normal-sized gas connection and
ordinary 110VAC power cord.

It does seem to be in good shape, and the included hood is a plus. But good to
know that it's not actually commercial when it comes to bidding on it. Also
good to know there should be no code, insurance, etc. issues with installing it.

How much do they want for the thing? (or if bidding, what is the
expectation?) A year or two ago the local cooking school was selling a
few 48 Viking cooktops for pretty cheap, I should have grabbed one... alas.

Ordered the motor online and had it in a day or two, installed it (three

A good reason to go with Goodman or Amana (same company now).
They'll let their distributors sell anything to anybody at wholesale, even on
eBay. For example: http://search.ebay.com/330677162140

The house I'm buying is going to get a 2 stage Goodman 95% furnace with variable

For natural gas yes. IF you have propane at home then you will need a
conversion kit with different sized gas jets and the internal regulator will
have to be set for 10 wc.

Google the model number and see if it is a true commercial model. It may be a
home model. That said the installation of an inexpensive used stove and hood is
still less then the cost of the same thing new plus the installation. ;-)

Another thing to consider - it just came to mind - you would also need to check
on the volume (of gas) this thing requires, as if it's substantial, you might
have to increase the size of your gas line to the appliance. They will
probably list the consumption in BTU/hour or CFH.

This is always a big deal in the generator business, as people see a 1 NPT
inlet fitting, and they think they can run a line 50 feet and the generator
will still have adequate volume at full load.

They usually find this out the hard way, like when they fire up the generator
and all of their pilot lights go out.

5-7 WC or about 0.18 - 0.25 ounces psi.

I did that when we lived in the Little Mobile Home on the Prairie,
adjusting our propane regulator to the requisite pressure (which, for
propane is 14 WC, IIRC).

BTW, 5 - 7 WC is 0.18 - 0.25 psi.
