Re: [MBZ] OT: when your crooked auctioneer wants to steal your $2 million car...

2019-12-31 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I consigned a bunch o stuff to an auctioneer.   I asked what assurance I
had that i'd receive the proceeds less commission.  He has one of the
big companies who come to the site to auction stores, industrial equip,
etc., so out of state. He gave me this schpeil about how he was bound by
law and honor etc, to pay me and that there were dire consequences for
an auctioneer who did not pay the owner, Blah blah.   The stuff brought
some amount.   Less commission, I was owed over 18k.  Every time I asked
about payment for the first couple of weeks, it was "waiting for
settlement."    After 2 weeks, nobody was available to talk.   Then they
quit answering my calls at all.   I ended up with nothing.  Popos
weren't interested, feds said it was "inconsequential amount" etc.

Auctioneers are only one step above lawyers.   But all the others I
dealt with were not going to steal everything.  Yes, they have all kinds
of tricks that always work to their favor, but most are not outright
thieves.  Some of their tricks work to the seller's benefit. Seller's
benefit is also to the benefit of the auctioneer.   I liked the BBC
series, "the Irish RM" where one character was "Larry the Liar" the
auctioneer.
