The Brits aways did DESIGN some of the best airframes in the world. Getting them built and into use was another story alltogether. Most egregious examples were during the Labor government in the 50s -- some rather good designs crippled by bureacratic meddling and stupid engine designs form the same bureacrats. Perfect examples: JetLiner Avro Arrow Barabazon long distance design. Peter

A. V. Roe, Ltd, Canadian operation, known s AVRO Canada. The did design work on the supersonic jets, too, and many of the engineers came from the UK. Peter
