It's essentially a heat pump that extracts heat from ambient air and uses it to heat the water. Very efficient - costs about $200/year to run (or less). If you live in a warmer climate, the "waste" energy from it is cold air and the higher ambient temperatures make it more efficient. Looks like the evaporator sits on top of it, so your house is the heat source. For me, that's half price hot water with free A/C in the summer, but not so good in the winter. Ooops.. forgot that generation type. So it uses waste heat from your house heat pump/AC system to heat water. Ok.. I understand now why it's $1000 bucks. Does that include install charges?
