Re: [MBZ] OT - Hybrid Water Heaters

2011-09-05 Thread LWB250
It's essentially a heat pump that extracts heat from ambient air and uses it to
heat the water.

Very efficient - costs about $200/year to run (or less). If you live in a
warmer climate, the "waste" energy from it is cold air and the higher ambient
temperatures make it more efficient.

Yep. Not that hard to just go to Sears.com and search for GE hybrid, this is the
first search result:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0423210P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

$1000 for a heat pump sounds good, it's about what you'd pay for gas fired on
demand tankless.

Looks like the evaporator sits on top of it, so your house is the heat source.
For me, that's half price hot water with free A/C in the summer, but not so good
in the winter. For Tampa, it's all good.

Please define "hybrid" a bit more as it applies to this offering.

Is it "Tankless" ? "Tankless gas fired"? Tankless electrical"? "Solar heat
by direct transfer"? Solar heat by media transfer"? "Geothermal"? [doubt
that for only $1000]

As a language, English dosen't quite have all the "green terms" nailed down
yet.

If it's tankless gas fired, I have one which is nothing short of wonderful.
Has no pilot light, turn on the water, that triggers a turbine which
generates a spark, lights the gas, instant hot water at 10 gallons per
minute. It only makes hot water on demand rather than storing it. Super
efficent, in past 8 months it's used less than 20 lbs of propane for a
household. Ebay, $160.00 plus shipping.
