Noo, I have not.  Got any suggestions?  finding a dealer/distributor is
the problem, or I have not used the right search terms.  Once I take it
apart, maybe I can find the reason and figger out why it won't pump.
Its about gotta be something with the jet.  Last time I had it apart the
impeller seemed to be in great condition.

Today, a friend gave me an old Wayne pump.  I think it matches the one I
am using.  So MAYBE I am on the way to having 3 alike.  (2 in use and a
spare)  He said this'n works.

As an aside, my wife's grandfather worked for many years for Myers in
Ashland, Ohio. I had a tour of their factory back in about 1974.

And, as a further aside, I am having the same problem or a similar one
anyway, with a Red Jacket pump made in the USA. It is getting old and
they tell me there are no parts available. It blew off the little hose
to the pressure regulator and then would not shut off and overheated
itself. The motor is fine but the impeller etc is damaged. We had a
similar problem happen once before and got parts and fixed it that
time. That time, the foot valve dropped to the bottom of the lake and
picked up enough mud to cause trouble. The pump ran until it
overheated and damaged the impeller etc. I had assumed we would be
able to get parts and repair it again as they are good solid pumps,
but apparently they have moved on to a newer model.

The impeller seems to be ok.   It runs but pumps not much more than a

That sounds rather discouraging, but maybe if you take it to a local hardware
store that sells Myers pumps, there will be a seasoned citizen that knows what
parts from other pumps will fit. I found that expertise after I spent hours
figuring out how to assemble the electric motor. Will try to remember that
next time.

I would guess impeller, seal and nozzle.   Myers Kits I have found so
far are $170 to $200.  I can buy a new cast iron pump for $100  online
or $200 locally.    So I juess I will have to junk the myers pump.   If
I had a stash of burned up motors where I could salvage a new front
plate, the motor would have value.  However the back of the pump is the
motor front plate, so there is no resale value.   It would work to power
a jointer or something like that, but the uses would be pretty limited.

I am going to call a few pump shops before I buy a new pump.   Seems to
me a kit should be about $25 to $40 if prastic impeller, and 50 or 60 if
bronze impeller.

[MBZ] OT Myers Jet pump

2019-08-10 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I know Myers pumps are revered in MI by the fruit growers, but has
anyone rebuilt a Myers jet shallow well pump?   Mine runs fine and does
not leak, but no longer pumps.  (1/3 HP) I am thinking the jet may be
worn out.  (Sandy acid, high iron water.)

I am going to look for a kit, but since Max recently put his back
together, I wondered if anyone has BTDT.  I would guess this mode of
failure may be common to all brands of jet pumps.

I expected bearing or seal failure or perhaps other leaks.  I figger if
I am going to rebuild it I should put new bearings in the motor also.
But it may be better to just buy a new pump and salvage the motor.

Has anyone found a jet pump that clearly outperforms others?

I have 3 jet pumps.  One Wayne in service, the dead Myers and a Sta-Rite
that was frozen I bought with a pressure tank for $5.  It has been JB
welded and is ok, but my plan for it is to use it to pump lake water for
garden, lawn etc.    I have a second well, so I want a pump on it so
when one well needs service, the other well will still be available.   A
great goal would be to have 2 or 3 identical pumps.
