If y'all want to read a good book, look for "Matterhorn". Cannot recall the name of the author but can get that too if anyone needs it. A novel about the Viet Nam war and a group of Marines. Very good. I just finished it.

My elder son wants to read it next.

I recommended it to my younger son and his response was a somewhat sheepish look and an "aw, you know I don't read books". Very sad for me as I think some of the best things in life are books.

My elder son is a bit of an academic I suppose. He has a Masters Degree in Architecture and is currently an intern with an architectural firm.

The younger one is a final level auto mechanic apprentice and as such much more of a "hands on" person. We do need both in this world but I find it hard to believe that he does not enjoy reading as most of the folks in our family are avid readers.

Randy who thinks perhaps his grade school education has failed my younger son in some manner.

Whatever happened to kids learning to read and then choosing to read a dictionary or an encyclopedia?

Happens that this is my son's favorite activity! Loves history
books, maps, etc. But he does go to a small private school.

it's considered democratic to make sure that no student gains an unfair advantage by knowing more than the dumbest kid can absorb. Catchphrases like 'no child left behind' are thrown around, but the actual system seems more like 'no child gets ahead'.

The _Marching_Morons_, anyone?
