Re: [MBZ] OT fun shooting day
Hey, speak of coincidences - I traded a couple and sold a couple bought a new EC9s Ruger (not sure what the dif is to the LC9s) I hope to get to the range if the weather cooperates. When I lived in Summerville SC we were able to shoot in the backyard but I worked so much it was hard to find time. The Range I belong to is about 40 min away so a bit of advance planning is needed. I hope to break it in soon and run 200 rds through it - that seems to be the magic #. You;re right about it being a great carry gun! The .380 is kind of a blunt instrument with a long trigger pull (the “safety”) and quite small so hard to get a good grip on it. She did a little better with it, smaller hands. It’s kinda hard to control but possible to get a fairly tight group but since it is a small carry personal defense gun that is not the main concern. It has a built-in laser too, mostly useful as an attention getter I think. The 9 can get some nice tight groups and is easy to shoot but is powerful. Fits my hands pretty well, so comfortable for me. I carry that one too, probably the better choice unless I want to have the little pea shooter a bit more concealed. 70F today so nice being on the back deck and having some father-daughter time. Re: [MBZ] OT fun shooting day
I wish I could shoot off the back deck... I went over to the range today, took the .54 muzzle loader, I'd carried it though hunting season and wanted to discharge. Fired 5 shots (the loaded one plus the 4 reloads I carried) and kept all the shots on the paper offhand at 50 yards, I was pleased. Then worked on my 1853 Enfield replica. I'd tried it on Labor day but it wouldn't go off. Some testing suggests the load (40 grains) was too light so I upped to 50. That seemed to work but would sometimes missfire, 60 grains proved reliable. After some messing around I found a point of aim that worked (165 year old sight design isn't the best) and put 3 shots into the black. I'm super pleased. Next time out I need to take some files so I can start reforming the sights to make something that will put the sights picture in the right place. Overall not a bad day at the range. -Curt On Tuesday, January 1, 2019, 2:38:26 PM EST, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote: Daughter unit set up a target out off the back deck so we went at it with her Browning.22 target pistol and my .380 M Bodyguard and Ruger LC9s 9mm. We also have a "range" in the backyard where we shoot rifles at 25 and 50 yards. What are standard distances for pistols? At 25 yards, the 2" barreled PPK can hardly hit anything. Re: [MBZ] OT fun shooting day
I should have gone to the range over the holidays, dang it. I’m having too much fun with the finnie. We’re shoveling sunshine with temps at an unseasonable +80F or thereabouts. Been that way all week and appears that it will continue into the weekend. Guess I’ll need to make getting the finnie’s FrigiKing unit working a priority. Gotta find some R12 hoses for my manifold gauge set. -D > On Jan 1, 2019, at 5:20 PM, Craig via Mercedes wrote: > > On Tue, 1 Jan 2019 14:37:37 -0500 Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > wrote: > >> Daughter unit set up a target out off the back deck so we went at it >> with her Browning.22 target pistol and my .380 M Bodyguard and Ruger >> LC9s 9mm. > > Thank you, Rich, for the report. > > >> The 9 can get some nice tight groups and is easy to shoot but is >> powerful. > > Perhaps compared to the .22 and .380, but not compared to a .45 ... > > >> 70F today so nice being on the back deck and having some >> father-daughter time. Daughter unit set up a target out off the back deck so we went at it with her Browning.22 target pistol and my .380 M Bodyguard and Ruger LC9s 9mm. The Browning is a great pistol, I really like it.
