I run Mobil 1 5W40 in my 82 240D. I have been doing so for the 5 or so years that I've owned it. It has always had a pretty significant oil leak as evidenced my a mess on my driveway. My bet is that the gravity field in his drive way has weakened, and if he parks somewhere else, oil will resume leaking. I've observed this phenomena before, a more typical manifestation is a mobile cancellation, which causes the car to get 40+ mpg and a side effect is that the air blows ICE COLD. Re: [MBZ] Oil leak gone?
Nope, max speed under its own power is 86.5mph. I was telling the story at ChowdaQ how when I used to commute in a 240D I would get on 495 west of Boston, put my right foot to the floor and keep it there until I got to my exit. It'd hit 86.5 on the downhills and since the hills up were only slight I'd only lose down to maybe 80. Never had any problems with carbon in that engine. -Curt From: Kaleb C. It says that Mercedes engines have a governor so you can run them flat out without destroying them. There used to be a kid across the street with an RX7 that thought he could fix things by sitting in the street and revving the engine. I always thought it would be fun to challenge him to start the car and hold his foot to the floor as long as he dared, his RX7 against my 240D... -Curt From: Randy Bennell rbenn...@bennell.ca To: Curt Raymond curtlud...@yahoo.com; Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Monday, September 15, 2014 3:55 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Oil leak gone? Re: [MBZ] Oil leak gone?
When I was a kid the guy across the street always had IH Scouts as he worked at the IH truck plant in town and I guess he got some break on them. In the winter, even when it was like -20F he would go out in the morning and start the thing, then floor it immediately, and stick his window scraper on the pedal to hold it down while he went in for his coffee and it warmed up. My dad would always be amazed the things did not blow up from the abuse. --R On 9/15/14 4:00 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes wrote: There used to be a kid across the street with an RX7 that thought he could fix things by sitting in the street and revving the engine. Gross generalization is the enemy of accuracy. The original Scout had an I4 of a displacement I can't remember (152?). Later models got a larger I4 (194?), then the 288 V8, 304 V8 and 345 V8. This would have been in the late 60s when I was but a sprout. Now that I think about it, the engine did sound like it belonged in a tractor.
