Re: [MBZ] Old crash pics

I suspect that a side slide into a pole like that at high speed would be
lethal in just about any vehicle.
A few years back, I saw a Ford Aerostar van in a junk yard that had
taken a hard hit on the passenger side just behind the front door.
I have no idea what it hit or what hit it, but I was surprised by the
damage. The intrusion went almost all of the way to the other side of
the van.

I would not have wanted to be a passenger in the back part of the vehicle.

Back in 1990, I rear ended a Lexus in my 1971 300SE L 3.5 sedan while
driving my 11 yo son to school - totally my fault. It bent the frame but
we were both unhurt. Total repair cost was $3,700, covered by insurance.
Lexus repair to the rear bumper and associated sheet metal amounted to
$1500.

Re: [MBZ] Old crash pics

1.) Because they're not making them for models produced before 1990

2.) Other than the fuel tank and battery, both of which are in common
locations, your W123 has no explosive devices like air bags or squibs for
locking the seat belts

The idea behind these is to let rescue/extraction folks know where the nasty
stuff is in the car so they don't set it off with their Hurst tools. MBUSA has
a good video about this on their website. I have to admit it never occurred to
me that there's all sorts of nasty stuff buried in newer model cars. In the
video a fire rescue guy talks about what it would be like if they were trying
to remove you from a wrecked vehicle and they set off a side airbag in the
process. Ouch.
