Pro tip: Build an engine receiving cradle that will fit on a pallet jack. ie a good solid wood pallet with blocks of wood screwed to it at the proper locations to receive the engine. Then, when the engine cradle is detached from the car, you can lift the car off the engine with the car hoist, and roll the engine assembly to wherever you want to work on it. When you put the replacement engine into the cradle assembly... roll the car back on the hoist, lift it, roll the engine assy under it, jiggle it into position with the pallet jack, lower the car and make the hookups on the bottom side... done and dusted... No sore back. From my experience, I think you will find all the electrical and engine controls will have quick disconnects. In most cases, the steering and front end will come out with the engine cradle so there will be a steering shaft and shifter disconnect points. The car will be designed around the mindset of "quick sub assembly in the factory", and R of assemblies at the dealerships. I have talked to him. He wants $2500 for the 08 and $4k for the 09 engine. Mine is a 09 but I really need to find out if a 07 or 08 will work. To drop the engine out on these it comes out the bottom, you drop the whole subframe then lift the car off it. I paid a grand for it. Thinking about sticking it on Fakebook for $2500 to see if somebody wants it as is. I have a complete engine, with transmission, in a crate. Setting in my hanger. It was removed from a wreck, the speedo and gages are also in the crate and speedo shows 117,000 miles. A guy who converted a 300SD to manual told me that it's slow off the line until it starts making boost, but running through the gears is no problem. I think so. It's the thing that gets the signal from the compressor's RPM sensor. It's worth at least cleaning the contacts on the one you do have. 85 300D, white with tan, ac, windows, everything works except cruise. Paint decent paint, with some messed up paint on trunk. Runs and drives excellent, will probably need valves adusted and purge, starts great whel cold, even down to the single digits but runs rough for a couple of minutes, typical.
