Re: [MBZ] Retirement Ride - GLK250 problems

2021-11-09 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
What a nightmare. My local dealership has been decent about attending to
basically the same issues. The worst thing that ever happened to me was a
check engine light and decreased fuel economy when two air charge hoses had
cracked. That cost about $900 to repair. The emissions-related recalls and
the replacement of the def blue heater element we're both handled under
warranty from Mercedes of North America.

The fellow I referred to has a 2014 GLK250 that is causing him grief. He
bought it new and it has only 120K Kilometers on it so around 75K miles.

He has had 2 NOX sensors and the DEF pump and heater replaced. The
dealer says it needs a DPF but none are available.

The DPF will be under warranty but apparently the NOX sensors and DEF
pump and heater are not and they are expensive.

There is also an issue with the SCR (catalytic converter).

It apparently sprays too much DEF under acceleration and the stuff
puddles in the SCR. It ultimately burns off and mucks up the NOX
sensors. It blows white smoke out the back when it burns off the DEF.

They have looked inside the SCR and say it is falling apart internally
and some of the material from it is coating the NOX sensors.

They did a DPF regeneration and a week later there is a code saying it
is almost plugged again.

He is not a happy camper. The dealer has not been able to resolve the
issues so far.

fairly late model Mercedes SUV with the diesel and is experiencing a lot
of problems. The dealer is unable to repair it because no parts are
available. He is rather depressed by the whole issue as he thought he
was buying long term reliability.
