Re: [MBZ] Review for the high revving American 3.5

2014-08-15 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
No, way too fast for the brakes and tires. Remember, radial tires
were a brand new invention then, and modern tires are vastly better
than what we drove on 40 years ago. Also, that W109/109 chassis did
not have anti-dive front suspension geometry, and slamming on the
brakes at speed would drop the front suspension almost down to the
jounce bumpers. Quite a surprise if you are not expecting it.
Reduces rear braking and can cause the rear tires to lock up and
switch ends, too.

The Benz had a much better suspension, but it still isn't safe at
above 130 mph for anyone, let alone the typical American driver these
days.

You meant to say "way too fast for the skill of the average American
driver", did you not?

BTW it seems that the addressing is gone stupid, last couple of my
dribbly list messages have only been addressed to the original poster
and not the whole list, well I corrected that manually, just so everyone
can be amazed at my deep insights

This is why it got such terrible milage -- with normal gearing and
more low end on the cams it would have gotten 25 mpg and gone crazy
fast. Way too fast for the brakes and handling anyway.
