Re: [MBZ] Single family owned Basket case

$4700 might not be unrealistic, the car looks fairly unmolested but
obviously is showing its age.

This guy's comment kinda says it all, fix what needs to be fixed to turn
it into a runner and to deal with the obvious really ratty aspects,
throw a few $k at it and have some fun.  I see a coupla cars of about
this vintage running around here, they look similar to that one, and the
owners just drive and enjoy them

Speaking from a few years experience in body shops, I don’t think there
are any huge challenges to making this into a driveable decent-looking
vehicle. Understand, I am NOT talking about “restoration,” which in my
opinion is often a name for vacuuming all the cash out of your wallet
and savings account. In other words, my preference would be to find any
actually rusted-through floor holes, and weld patches on, rather than
finding an expensive pristine floor section and replacing the whole
thing. And so forth. Same with the paint job. I myself would not
completely strip this car, where there is fairly sound paint I would
just sand, prime, seal, paint. More work where the paint has gotten so
thin there is surface rust, of course. BTW, I think that floor rust is
from years of the top leaking maybe while it was still being driven,
possibly never garaged when it was being driven. Doesn’t take a very big
leak, the floor mats will hold even a small amount of rain water a long
time and rust that floor.

But first questions first: I have not found in any of the comments or in
the description whether this car is, right now, in running and driving
condition. There are lists of things that have been replaced, like
radiator, power steering pump, etc. etc. but does that mean this car is
currently capable of starting and driving down the street, stopping,
turning a corner, returning to where you started? If so, great! Someone
needs to buy this and make a nice looking car out of it. Patina? Naw.
Not me. I want shiny new paint and a sparkling white top and a nice
interior.

But of course, Buyer gets to make all those decisions as THEY prefer.
GLWTA!!
