Re: [MBZ] Target Leak

Well, I would not be surprised. As for B-52 missions, in which I was
involved, even if the enemy was not notified of the targets directly there,
were ways they could easily figure it out. There were spies on the ground
at Anderson AFB, Guam, and UTapao, Thailand, and in boats just off the
runways watching every move we made. They saw us take off, knew how long it
took to arrive "in country" (Vietnam), and could deduce the target area by
listening to the message that was broadcast to the "world" 20 minutes or so
from time-on-target. An example of such message: "All aircraft stay clear
of the 165 degree radial 65 nautical miles from "Bullseye" between 1525 and
1555 Zulu." Not only did WE know that "Bullseye" was Hanoi, but it would
not take any genius who heard it to soon also know it.

During the mass B-52 raids on Hanoi in Dec '72 (Linebacker II), those
messages were not broadcast, but you can bet they knew we were en route, and
again, it would not have taken a genius to know we were en route to Hanoi.
