I think the issue was between rubber band tars and normal tars on the car. PO of the last SL I bought ran about 50psi. He'd gone for a brisk drive and then measured the tire temperatures across the face of the tread, and kept inflating until it was even. Dan said something about the 18s needing higher pressure than the 16s and his wife wearing them fast when he inflated them to placard pressures. I tend to run closer to sidewall max than to placard pressure just because it lowers rolling resistance and wear. Never had them wear the centers out from 'overpressure', but have worn edges from being too low. There is a long discussion going on the fruit forum about how you should run your tires at 40 psi instead of what the factory said. Reason being is tires now days are different and need higher pressure. If you run the factory pressure tires are under inflated and wear out the edges faster. The FB generation is not mechanically inclined, so I am not really very surprised. Many of them don't have the necessary attention span to be successful. For Alex supposedly having his own shop, he seems like he does not know all that much for supposedly being a professional. I am sure he is a nice guy but it just seems to me like his a DIY learning about these cars and also trying to do it professionally at the same time. I bought a 123 line from him for this 240D I have sitting in the shop. For $15 I figured it was easier than me going out to the back 40 and pulling on off. I joined to see what it was like and I lucked out finding a rear bumper for my 1983 240D ...$80 DELIVERED to Pa. from Kentucky !! It had a San Fran transit sticker on it ..No galvanization of the alum. attachments at supports. Alex Vaughn made a road trip up my way thru to Long Island,NY. Their great master mechanic is going to swap out his air cleaner for the 85 cal version so the mounts won’t break anymore. I gave him the solution for that problem but doubt he takes the advise. Instead he will find he will be paying quite a bit more for air filters, if he can find them.
