To me, hydrogen only makes sense as energy storage, not as a
source. Think of it as a battery. You use intermittent power such as
solar or wind to make hydrogen gas that can be stored, transported, and
used when and where needed.

The problem is (as I understand it) that so far, splitting water
molecules is inefficient. The H-O-H chemical bonds are pretty stable;
they don't just fall apart. And then you need to compress and/or
supercool the hydrogen to store it or transport it, and that takes more
energy.

The extractable energy per mass of the fuel is too low, I'll stick to dead

the dirty H runs dimes to a dollar, the mid grade can be processed for a buck 
or two.  The Green gas is in the $5 range.  That is some real get woke go broke 
fuel.  Which would you be putting into your Ballard fuel cell B class?
