But those were the images for the wrong article.

Here is a different article with good pictures.

Great link, Philip, thanks!

What exactly are the symptoms that this procedure is needed? The tranny in
my '87 has always been harsh on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts and a little soft on
the 1-2 despite meticulous by-the-book adjustment of the linkages and
vacuum control. I don't know how old it is---I think quite possibly it's
original since it takes two or three seconds to engage reverse from neutral.

The K1 spring upgrade is supposed to firm up the 2/3 shift. So if yours
is already harsh you probably don't need/want it.

Thats pretty clear, thanks!

I guess I'm not going to bother though, theres no flare in my transmission,
just a hard 1-2 shift when cold. I'm hoping that will clear up with M1 fluid.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it,

The best description of the K1 I found was here;
www.benzworld.org/forums/w201-190-class/1361737-diy-mercedes-722-3-722-4-a.html

The description was exactly on, I did it about 6 weeks ago on my youngest
daughter's 190e and after removing and cleaning the valve body. Long story but
I ended up replacing the transmission anyway with one from the pick-n-pull and
swapping out the valve body again.

Apologies to those who dislike top posting :-)

Can anybody be more specific about what you do in the K1 procedure? I'm taking
the week after Christmas off and lining up my jobs. Figuring on a trans service
with M1. Car has ~175,000 miles with dubious maintenance previously. I had my
Indy do the trans fluid and filter 15k ago with just conventional fluid which
I'm considering a flush...

The spring kit is easy enough, though in my 300D I can't say it really

had things opened up.

M1 ATF is good stuff though. Worth the $$ in my opinion.

If you drain the torque converter you will remove nearly all the old
fluid -- what's left is in the valve body, servos, and pump. Less
than a quart, probably no more than a pint or so, and can be
ignored. The fluid change 15k ago did a nice flush job for you.

I place several neodymium magnets in the pan and by the filter intake to
capture any tiny steel bits floating around. They will be coated with black goo
next time you change the filter. Put a few on the power steering filter while
you are at it. They stay in place just fine.
