I’ve left my gun in the car at the PO, never thought about the property aspect. I’m sure there are a lot of criminals around here. I’m not sure what having a weapon in the PO would do for you, at ours it is hard to see any signs of life from the “workers” there anyway. --FT Sent from iPhone > On Dec 28, 2019, at 7:27 AM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > So the loophole seems to be mailing a firearm. The last paragraph of the article at https://www.usacarry.com/carrying-concealed-post-office/ says, So since you cannot even carry onto the Post Office parking lot, what should you do? Obviously, one option is to leave your gun at home if you know you’ve got to stop by the Post Office. But where I live there is a restaurant next to the Post Office, so I always park in the restaurant parking lot and stash my gun in the glove box and then walk over when I need to send a package or mail a letter. Yes, it’s nonsense, but unfortunately, many laws are. There's federal law, and there's federal regulations which contradict federal law but appellate courts uphold them anyway: https://www.usacarry.com/carrying-concealed-post-office/ Most people can agree it’s illegal to carry concealed inside a Post Office. I say “most,” because there are a good number of people who think it is legal. You see, the United States Code (18 U.S.C. 930) that deals with firearms in federal buildings has a section that says there are certain times you can carry concealed in a federal building… “The lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.” People argue that “other lawful purposes” means we can carry for personal protection because we have a valid concealed carry permit. From what my lawyer has told me and from all of the research I have done this is NOT true. In fact, the Code of Federal Regulations – Title 39 – which is named “Conduct on Postal Property” says “No person while on postal property may carry firearms, other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives, either openly or concealed, or store the same on postal property, except for official purposes.” So hopefully you understand that you cannot carry concealed inside the Post Office… But that’s not my main concern and not why I wrote this today. The reason I wrote this and the big mistake people make is that you’re not even allowed to have your gun on Post Office Property. In other words, when you pull into the parking lot and toss your gun into the glove compartment while you go mail a letter, you are breaking the law. I realize that may sound “dumb” and hard to believe, but the above Title 39 paragraph clearly states “on postal property, except for official purposes.” Now, I had a student who told me that a friend of theirs got arrested in the Post Office parking lot when a police officer watched him put his gun in his glove box… But the most significant proof I found is what actually happened to a postal employee. A fellow named Clarence Dorosan used to store his gun in his car while he went to work each day. Somehow, one of this supervisors found out he had a gun in his car, and he was arrested and fired for having a gun on the property. I’ve added appellate ruling where the judges upheld his original conviction below this article. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

The whole point is not having to deal with the PO, the local is totally useless, some Soviet-style bureaucracy starting before you even walk in the door. NO CONCEALED WEAPONS ALLOWED. WAIT IN LINE UNTIL CALLED. STAND BEHIND LINE UNTIL CALLED. DO NOT PLACE ITEMS ON COUNTER. And their hours are abysmal. It's worse than the DMV. I got hold of Amazon, told them to deal with it, Priyanka refunded my money. The package will probably show up Monday on my porch... Headed to Advance Auto while I'm out on errands, will be $4 cheaper anyway. Re: [MBZ] Whinging
That’s too bad. I love our postal carriers, they’re both great guys and will always leave stuff in a safe place. Granted, my vast estate is maybe 40 feet from the curb, but…. I also like that they’ll come to the door and ring the bell for Priority Mail packages when I have one to go out. I just leave the flag up and stick a little note saying I’ve got a package for pickup and they come right up and get it. That being said, I regularly give them (cold) bottled water when I see them and slip them a $20 around the holidays. I had the same carrier for nearly 20 years, Miss Becky, and she rocked. Sadly, she had knee issues and finally bailed because of them. We loved Miss Becky. I was at the PO today to pick up a certified letter from my HOA bitching about the oil stains on my driveway (bite me) and the guys at the windows were all younger veterans who were pretty raucous. Long beards that were in braids, major tats, etc. If you saw one of them in a bar you’d think they were gang bangers or bikers. Nice guys. -D > On Oct 19, 2019, at 11:56 AM, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes > wrote: > > I wanted to change the rear diff fluid on the $600E320, ordered some from the > large wimmins.
