[MBZ] Won One: 107 visor tab

2010-04-15 Thread Dieselhead
I was able to repair the visor tab on the 107. I glued the three
pieces together with shoo goo. When it was half dry, I wrapped the
whole thing with a strip of Aluminum from a pop can bedded in shoo
goo. After the whole mess dried, I got some micro drills at HF and
iced a 0.5 mm drill to make 6 small holes that I used to wrap copper
wire around portions to hold the whole thing together.

While most US drill chucks won't hold a drill under 1/16 inch
(0.0625) I found the HF cordless drill would hold the 0.5 mm (0.02)
drill. I was impressed as the drill and flashlight cost only $19! I
took a chunk of # 12 TTHN wire , then pulled a strand out of it and
threaded it though the holes, and pulled it and tied the wire off.

The result is not pretty, but it works. I attached a picture taken
with a webcam. Not the quality of hursty's watch pictures, but I
don't have his equipment either.

What, no old microwave sheet metal welded in there somewhere?

That _is_ pretty oogly. Will it still 'snap' into place?
Looks like you've eliminated the 'dogbone' cross-section,
which means it won't stay up in the plastic socket.

nope. too small and it is plastic. To be real the aluminum should
have come from a beer can, not a pop can. Since they don't put good
beer in cans, I don't have any beer cans. Actually, it was not a pop
can, but a club soda can. No HFCS in that!

one piece of wire is crossways in the middle to pull the aluminum
down and make the cross section thinner there. That does not show in
the picture.
