Possibly, but there's two weeks to go on the bidding.
It's a rather esoteric car for my part of rural Michigan, but you never know
when some bidder from Lebanon will run it up over $20k.
I almost bought a Cayenne Turbo for about $4-5k last spring, but it was over
ten years old.

I ended up at the yard this morning to bid on a parts car, so I took a look at
the Eldorado convertible. Definitely a project car, but rust free. No back
window, 3" of water in a tarp that fell in through the hole.
It just sold for $3500 plus fees. Was $1850 when the auction opened.

I'm thinking somebody didn't want it after her husband died. She's probably
been trying to get him to sell it for the past 20 years.

Probably runs and drives, but since they cleaned/enhanced it, the listing says
enhanced instead of runs and drives guarantee. If it didn't run and drive, I'd
assume they would list damage - mechanical.

MI - CERTIFICATE OF TITLE = normal clean title.
Donated Vehicle
Primary Damage: NORMAL WEAR
Secondary Damage: MINOR DENT/SCRATCHES

Primary Damage: NORMAL WEAR

In all seriousness, do you want me to look at it this afternoon?
It'll take me a couple of hours, so I'm not doing it just for fun.
It's currently $825, so it's already over $1000 after fees, and it'll cost
another thousand or so to haul it to Maryland. I wouldn't be surprised to see a
final bid price around $2000, which is about $2800 out the door plus towing
charges and restoration.

Mitch.

I love this statement: "This car sold new for $44k, which is equal to
$100k in today's money."

By that measure, the Chevy Chevette I purchased in 12/75 for $3600 is now
worth about $15,000 or more, depending on your inflator. No pun intended.

At least with a two post you only have to clear the tires (which will be hanging
low). With a four post drive on lift, you have to clear the lift structure that
the tires of the top car are sitting on.

Parking the top car on a drive-on lift would be a hassle.
Parking the top car on a two post lift would be a bigger hassle.

The 85 W123 in California had the Trap Oxidizer. The 49 state cars
did not, although it's possible a few did. Some had the new style

not by year.

If he runs the ENGINE VIN he will realize that the campaign was consummated

I would agree with this as well. If you gave them a different VIN they would

True, but it's an easy "out" for the dealer to avoid having to do campaign or
warranty work, which is about the least profitable job in the shop.

Not to mention that they can get stuck with the job if the claim gets denied by
MBUSA. If there is anything in the past that shows the numbers don't match it
could certainly be a basis for rejecting the claim.

And you though we were all full of beans when we (several list
 members)
said to do away with the T/O. MBUSA did away with them in a
 recall/TSB.
 Why keep it?

Re: [MBZ] Andrew whine - why? W123 300TD

2014-04-13 Thread Rich Thomas
It would be hard to damage the turbo internals in an engine swap unless
something got in there and buggered it.

I can understand, since in transplanting a drive train or engine some parts

is that what the dealer told you when asked? interesting; but we're
not talking about a warranty, we're talking about a "Campaign" (which is
what MBZ did instead of letting it get to a formal "Recall").

actually, what happened with the '85 300Ds was that MBZ did (at
least) 2

separate "Campaigns" where they replaced the Trap Oxidizers with
something
else; the last one i'm familiar with replaces it with a W126-numbered
part
that seems to be nothing other than a Catalytic Convertor.
the campaigns were at no cost to the owners; it might be worth
checking to see if they're still in effect, as the last one i took
advantage of was already ~10 years ago.

cheers!
