Re: [MBZ] loudness
I asked my SWMBO about this. She said the 300TD is indeed loud compared to her Focus, but not distressingly so. I myself don't notice it. The older diesels I owned (1980 300D) had a disturbing throbbing noise at highway speeds that I found really upsetting. Well yes i agree -my 124 is,quieter than my 123's. I just never thought of them as loud. But prior to that the only diesels I drove were fire engines with cab over Detroit diesels - they were loud. Every 123 car I have owned I would consider loud on the highway as compared to a 124 or 210 for example. It was terribly loud and shook like a dog killing a snake. Of the same era IH Diesel busses were smooth and quiet. At idle/stopped, the 110 with OM621 was noisy enough to let you know it was a Diesel, but even at 25 MPH, it was quiet. The 115 was better and the 123 Diesel was still more quiet. Each generation of MB Diesels gets more quiet, as do the Diesel pickups, at least when they leave the factory. None are annoyingly noisy nor will they vibrate if all things are in order. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] loudness
A 240D wailing away at max speed (85? I forget now) is kind of loud but I never thought I had to yell over the engine. The turbo engines are quieter. The 124s have the double firewall and much better sealing of the passenger compartment from the engine bay, they're also a lot slipperier through the air so theres less wind noise. The 60x engines are much more refined also. When I've got someplace to park it for the winter I'll again have a 123, they are lovely to live with but honestly from a cheap to keep perspective my VWs are tough to beat. The '98 has cost me maybe $3500 total over the 2.5 years I've had it and it just crossed 270,000 miles. I think I've put almost 40,000 of those on it but I'd have to check my records to be sure. Its going in for a tie rod and brake booster tomorrow but that'll be the first money I've put into it for like 6 months other than the bi-annual oil change I did just after Christmas. -Curt From: Dwight Giles via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Cc: Dwight Giles <dwight.gi...@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, January 17, 2016 8:02 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] loudness Well yes i agree -my 124 is,quieter than my 123's.
