Re: [MBZ] more holes

2011-01-05 Thread R A Bennell
My father had 2 different '53 Roadmaster Buicks with the straight 8. He
talked about them fondly most of his life. The first one came to grief -
wet road and worn tires and a handy rock face. The 2nd was a gift from
the insurance company in replacement for the 1st. He was very happy as
the 2nd one was in much nicer condition. I remember him coming home and
handing my mother a chrome ring and telling her that was about all that
was left of the Buick. I think if was from one of the front turn signal
lights. It sat on a shelf in our kitchen for many years after.

 All the holes were on one side in those days, and had an exhaust
 header going through them, eh?..

You are thinking of my friend CB's Bugatti 35B.

Looks like the Buick holes appeared in 1949.

I have here in my top center desk drawer the MB crest (not the circled star
hood ornament - the crest, the little one with wreath; the one screwed to
top center of grille below the star hood ornament) from my beloved '80 240D;
'shows some minor bradding from collision that totaled it nearly 15 years
ago. 'Bet I'd still be driving it if it had not met its demise courtesy of
an uninsured motorist driving a ragged pickup.
