Re: [MBZ] next step - Lubro Moly Valve Clean
According to Lubro-Moly, Valve Clean is a gasoline additive. I guess I never asked, or you'd never mentioned, what made you think this will make any difference? Is there a reason you chose it over Diesel Purge? As an aside I think continuing to ask the list what we think of it is going to be futile, its pretty clear to me that nobody here has tried it. Its time to either go back to the tried and true diesel purge or go out on a limb and give it a shot. -Curt Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2012 20:54:03 -0400 From: glenn brown g_010...@hotmail.com To: mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: [MBZ] next step - Lubro Moly Valve Clean Message-ID: snt140-w17158fd64401da8ba7e59ff0...@phx.gbl Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Since replacing the #4 #5 fuel injectors had no effect on the rough idle and smoking upon cold startup in my '85 300TD, I thought I'd use a procedure which one of our listers had previously suggested for Lubro Moly Diesel Purge, where it was suggested to empty the fuel filter of diesel fuel, fill the fuel filter with Lubro Moly Valve Clean, and drive the car. Since I couldn't locate any Lubro Moly Valve Clean locally, I had to mail order it and it arrived today. The directions on the can only mentions gasoline engined cars and the fact that one can (150cc) will treat 19 gal. so I'm a little apprehensive about using the fuel filter procedure as I'm wondering if this high a concentration of this stuff would be safe in a diesel? Re: [MBZ] next step - Lubro Moly Valve Clean
Sounds like it's something roughly equivalent to Techron or STP additive. Probably won't hurt anything, and might do a bit of good, to add it to the tank, but not sure I'd run it undiluted. Since replacing the #4 #5 fuel injectors had no effect on the rough idle and smoking upon cold startup in my '85 300TD When you finally change the glow plugs as a last resort before pulling the cylinder head, I have a carbon reamer for the glow plug holes you may borrow for shipping costs. I also have a vacuum cleaner attachment to suck out the loose carbon. Do you want Lubro Moly Valve Clean, or Lubro Moly Diesel Purge? The latter is the stuff that I have used with our diesels. Its instructions say to run the car off the contents of the can at 100%. That is done by putting both the fuel feed and return lines in the can and running the engine until the can is empty.
