No, but the mastering is another piece of the puzzle. I've found that a
lot of Sinatra's stuff is not as well recorded as Tony Bennett's although
Tony likes a lot of reverb on his vocals and Frank's are usually almost dry.

Bing Crosby was very well recorded in the 40 onwards. He was a pioneer in
the multitrack recording method as well as tape recording. Later he put the
money up for Ampex to produce the first videotape! I recently bought a
couple of old albums by Binger and they were phenomenally well recorded! I
was impressed.
OTOH, the first Zeppelin album has so much distortion in John Paul Jones'
bass that it drives me mad. Levels were just way too high.
