Re: [MBZ] remove sludge from w123 diesel
Black oil is to be expected. It's the nature of a diesel. Perhaps Mobil 1 is not as high quality of an oil as it once was. If you do use a flush product, I would probably pull the lower pan after draining the oil to make darn sure there is no chunks of sludge that will plug the oil screen. Here is a flush product that is allegedly very good. I've never used it. Follow the instructions to a T. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TK1BH1D/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_6?smid=A1EGOV5KZD8TMZ=1 I would probably use this though, just because it's from Germany. https://www.amazon.com/Liqui-Moly-2037-Pro-Line-Engine/dp/B00CR3RXTO/?tag=drive09e6-20 Rick Get Outlook for Android<https://aka.ms/AAb9ysg> From: Mercedes on behalf of Dan Elliott via Mercedes Sent: Saturday, February 17, 2024 12:25:59 PM To: mercedes Mailing List Cc: Dan Elliott Subject: [MBZ] remove sludge from w123 diesel Good Afternoon! When I was adjusting the valves last fall I was surprised to see that there seemed to be a slight build-up of sort of gummy oil around the valves. Was not terrible but I could understand why it might not want to drain out in an oil change. I have heard some conflicting advice on using sludge removal on these engines and was curious if anyone had any advice on this. There are some products from Liqui Moly that look interesting. It explains why my oil goes black instantly after an oil change. I have had the car for over 15 years and it had only 68kmi when I got it. I have used synthetic oil since I got it, mostly Mobil 1 15-50. Thanks in advance! Where exactly is this gummy oil? On top of the head under the cam cover? If so, you should be able to rinse it out of there. Plug the oil drain holes to keep it from washing down into the oil pan, and then spray it out with Varsol. Will make a bit of a mess, but clean the engine off after you put the cam cover back on. Don't forget to pull out what ever you used to plug the drain holes. Watch to see if it comes back when you adjust the valves again. Re: [MBZ] remove sludge from w123 diesel
Your oil is going to go black immediately after an oil change, that’s the nature of these diesels. Not sure about the valve buildup. Might be worth trying some product for awhile and see if that helps. --FT Sent from iFōn > On Feb 17, 2024, at 1:26 PM, Dan Elliott via Mercedes > wrote: > > Good Afternoon! > When I was adjusting the valves last fall I was surprised to see that there > seemed to be a slight build-up of sort of gummy oil around the valves. How long have you had it? If you are using synthetic it should clear up in its own after a while. Might try a while but it should.
