So it cranked slower and slower until finally "clunk". That sounds like the probably didn't have enough energy to cause further damage. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

It was spinning fine, then it seemed like either the battery or starter was failing. It spinned (spun?) slowly a coupla times then clunk and no spinnies. Charged up the battery but would still just clunk. Changed the starter and still just clunk. Tried to spin by hand forward and nothing though it will go backwards a bit. Should’ve tried that before going to the trouble of changing starter. This suggests chain is broken or bound up inside but could be something else I suppose. As it turns out the engine in this car is out of the bad range for M272 350 engines. I'm not sure I checked that before and forgot I had, or never checked it. In any case that suggests that the balance shaft issue is not the problem here, and it is something else that I will have to determine. So, that is the next step in all this adventure.
