Re: [MBZ] windshield misting over after A/C shutdown ('85 300D)
Hi all I have the same problem in my 300SE/126. So far I have not been able to pinpoint the fault but I am inclined towards the defrost actuator having a slow leak as Trampas has mentioned.but the condensation is on the inside ! mak - Original Message - From: Trampas [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Mercedes Discussion List' mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2007 5:11 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] windshield misting over after A/C shutdown ('85 300D) Well most likely when you shut the A/C off the vents are switching to the defrost mode due to a leak in one of the actuators. Thus the cold air hits the windshield causing the condensation. The condensation will most likely be on the outside of windshield and removed with wipers. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

hi Jim! yes, i'd expect *some* vapor, but not enough that it were to cloud the windshield to total opaqueness... and it didn't behave this way over the last few years; this is a relatively new quirk. and no, the AC isn't blowing through the defroster vents (unless, of course i select the defroster). cheers! e Jim Cathey wrote: lately, anytime i shut off the A/C after using it while driving, moisture vapor becoming condensation blowing onto the windshield becomes bad enough as to impede visibility. any ideas as to what this is a symptom of, and/or what i might look for? Some degree of that can be normal, depending on atmospheric conditions. But I would first check to see that your AC is not blowing up through the defroster vents, chilling the glass so that when you shut it off and the natural evaporation of the un-drained condensate (of which there is always going to be some) re-condenses on the cold glass. The AC's not supposed to blow up the defroster vents unless you select the button next to DEF. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

hi Tom! safe assumption; yes, this is on the inside. 'twere it on the outside, it wouldn't be a problem, since there's windshield wipers to handle moisture on the outside,... ;-) i haven't seen any sign of coolant loss, and it only happens right after i shut off the AC, so i don't suspect the heater core. i wasn't able to locate with any certainty what might be the condenser drain; any tips/hints on where to find it? cheers! e Tom Hargrave wrote: I'm assuming it's on the inside? hi Peter! sorry if i wasn't clear enough; this isn't occurring when i shut the engine off, but only after i shut the A/C off while the car is still running, and it isn't specific to any type of weather. hi Barry! (first; no ernie here,... ;-) ) i'm familiar with the conditions that lead to condensation; in case i wasn't clear enough earlier, we're talking a relatively new occurrence in this car that goes far beyond mere normal condensation. the buildup is enough that you can't see through it, until you've given it enough time and air circulation that the buildup is allowed to evaporate, or you turn the A/C back on...!? cheers! e Barry Stark wrote: Ernie - Consider this...you have warm moist air inside your car.
