Re: [MBZ] '07 RE320 CDI
Enough overfilling will froth the oil and the resulting air bubbles can make hydraulic lifters "soft", which accelerates wear from excess movement as the air bubbles compress. Also, entrained air can reduce lubrication at pressure-fed bearings (mains, cam, etc.). Having said that, it's a matter of how long it's run, with how much excess oil, and under what level of stress. So it's a crap shoot. If the lifters sound OK I doubt there is much damage. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of > WILTON via Mercedes > Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2016 2:14 PM > To: Mercedes Discussion List> Cc: WILTON > Subject: [MBZ] '07 RE320 CDI > > Some yahoo (supposedly at MB stealership, too) over-filled Schwartze's > crankcase before I bought it. Re: [MBZ] '07 RE320 CDI
I doubt it will make much difference unless it was routinely and consistently overfilled. By the way, I didn't know you had an R Class! I moved my office a couple years ago and discovered an independent shop down the street. I have gotten to know the guy and he knows what he is doing and done great work on every car I have brought him. The other day when I stopped in he was a little frustrated. I noticed he was working on an R Class diesel and he had almost the whole dash apart. The car had a bad evaporator! What a job. -Original Message- From: WILTON [mailto:wilt...@nc.rr.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2016 1:14 PM To: Mercedes Discussion ListSubject: [MBZ] '07 RE320 CDI Some yahoo (supposedly at MB stealership, too) over-filled Schwartze's crankcase before I bought it.
